Guitar Junction Top Guitar Care Tips
Here are a few useful pointers aimed at helping you to get the best out of your guitar. Restorations, repairs, set-ups, upgrades and adjustments to all kinds of guitar are also undertaken on the premises by David and Neville in person.
It's A Clean Machine
Guitar finishes quickly become dirty just from the oil and pollutants in the atmosphere. The fingerboard, and the strings in particular, will also absorb dirt and sweat from your hands. Thoroughly cleaning your guitar after every gig or practice session with just a soft cloth will dramatically reduce the build-up of dirt and restore that glorious new guitar lustre (looks great under lights as well!). Wipe the strings clean to prolong their brightness and give the fingerboard a good once-over with a clean cloth as well. Need a refinish - we have access to the UK's finest guitar finishers, who can give you an as-new factory finish or anything from relic to new old stock, or even a customised finish. Call David or Neville on 01903 209199.
Don't Get Strung Out
Depending on how frequently you play, there's nothing like the brightness and twang of a new set of strings to improve your sound and sustain. Most professionals change their strings every gig, while some brands of string can last for as long as six months of not-too-frequent playing. But make sure to re-string your guitar at least 24 hours before a gig to allow them to stretch and bed in. Prefer to have the professionals do it? Just bring your guitar in to the shop and we'll fit the strings of your choice, usually in just a few minutes while you sample our great coffee. Call David or Neville on 01903 209199.
Check Out the Action, Man
Your guitar can't be expected to play sweetly unless the action is set up to suit your playing style. Obviously actions vary considerably - electrics are normally set up lower than acoustics, and slide guitar usually requires a higher action - but there is a limited range within which you will have a smooth-playing guitar. Our standard guitar setup costs just £45.00, including strings, and covers the Guitar Junction 15-point check up designed to bring your guitar back to factory specifications, or to an individual spec of your choice. This work is always done on the premises and includes a signed check sheet detailing everything we have done to your instrument. By using these check sheets you can build-up an excellent service history for your guitar. Call David or Neville on 01903 209199.
